Estates

Marchesi de’ Frescobaldi, one of the most important producers of premium-quality wines in Italy, currently owns the largest extent of vineyards in Tuscany, with 1,200 hectares shared by seven estates, all of them located in esteemed viticultural areas and dedicated to the production of prestigious DOCG, DOC, and IGT wines.
Each estate is the unique expression of its local terroir

The Castello di Nipozzano, built in year 1000 as a defensive fortress, became the centre of communal life for the village of the same name. Today the castle houses the wine cellar, where the estate red wines are produced and cask-aged. Nipozzano also serves as Frescobaldi’s hospitality centre and as site for its fine food and wine initiatives.

The estate lies in the heart of the Chianti Rufina area, covering 626 hectares at elevations between 250 and 400 metres. 240 hectares are planted with Sangiovese, Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Merlot, and Petit Verdot. The soil, rich in clay and limestone, and its dry, well-ventilated weather compose the ideal terroir for the production of wines that are elegant and well balanced, full bodied, with firm structures to last them over many years. Those qualities are amply demonstrated by Nipozzano Chianti Rufina Riserva DOCG and by the Montesodi and Mormoreto crus.

Castello di Pomino, designed by Florentine architect Gherardo Silvani, houses the estate winemaking cellars.
Recognised in 1716 by Cosimo III de’ Medici, Grand Duke of Tuscany, for the excellence of its wines, Pomino vaunts an environment unique for Tuscany: a perfectly-balanced ecosystem of vineyards, fir forest, chestnut trees, and olive groves. The estate covers 1,458 hectares lying along the wooded slopes of the Tuscan-Emilian Apennines, with 108 hectares in vineyards, at elevations ranging from 300 to 750 metres. The Frescobaldis were the first in Tuscany to cultivate international varieties, planting Pinot Noir, Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Chardonnay, Pinot Bianco, and Pinot Grigio. Sangiovese is also grown at lower elevations. Thanks to slightly acidic soils and the dry, cool weather of these more northerly areas, these vineyards yield highly aromatic wines of striking finesse and distinctiveness.

The unique qualities of this local terroir and the long history of its international varieties, have won for Pomino official approval of Pomino Bianco and Rosso DOC. The Castello di Pomino estate produces Pomino Bianco, Pomino Benefizio, Pomino Rosso, Pomino Rosso Casafonte, Pomino Vinsanto, and Pomino Vendemmia Tardiva.

Constructed in 1100 to guard the road from the port at Talamone to Siena, the castle has belonged to the Frescobaldi family since 1989. Already one of the top-quality producers of Brunello di Montalcino in the late 19th century, the tenuta of Castelgiocondo yields massively-structured wines of great complexity and balance.

The estate lies on the southwestern slope of Montalcino, at elevations ranging from 180 to 400 metres, and comprises 815 hectares, with 241 hectares under vine. A total of 152 hectares are officially registered for the production of Brunello di Montalcino. The soils, given their various elevations, are diverse, and the climate is warm and dry, relieved by marine breezes:  these are ideal conditions for producing very full-bodied, sturdily-structured and powerful wines that are, at the same time, characterised by remarkable finesse and balance. The wines produced at the Castel Giocondo estate are Castelgiocondo Brunello di Montalcino Riserva DOCG, Castelgiocondo Brunello di Montalcino DOCG, Campo ai Sassi Rosso di Montalcino DOC, and Lamaione IGT.

1092 is the date of the first historical document attesting to 'Castillioni Vallis Pesae.' These vineyards of Castiglioni in fact give rise to the first historic 700 years of Marchesi de’ Frescobaldi wine. The Castiglioni estate lies at an elevation from 200 to 250 metres in the Chianti Colli Fiorentini zone, in the Montespertoli area. It comprises 513 hectares, with 152 under vines.
The local climate is warm and dry, and the vineyards, completely re-planted to high densities in the 1990s, favour the production of wines that display rich aromas of wild red berry fruit, classic to this Chianti area. Castiglioni produces Tenuta di Castiglioni IGT, il Saltagrilli IGT and the Giramonte IGT cru.

Located in the heart of Tuscany’s Maremma,  the Tenuta dell’Ammiraglia and its vineyards carpet the hills facing the Mediterranean.

The winery, designed by architect Piero Sartogo to integrate perfectly into the surrounding countryside, stands out as one of the finest examples today of innovation and modern technology going hand in hand with a deep respect for the local environment.

The tenuta’s wines faithfully reflect the striking qualities of this growing area, which boasts hillsides with ideal exposure to the sun, soils perfect for high-quality grapes, and marine breezes that temper the hot summertime temperatures often encountered in this area.

The syrah grape, which finds its optimal habitat here, yields the estate’s finest wine, Ammiraglia Maremma Toscana IGT. Complementing it is Pietra Regia dell’Ammiraglia Morellino di Scansano Riserva DOCG, sourced from Sangiovese vineyards planted in soils rich in chalk-sandstone galestro, ideal conditions for this and similar grape varieties.

Marchesi de' Frescobaldi purchased this property in 1997. Located in the southernmost section of the Morellino di Scansano area, it lies below the village of Magliano in Tuscany. With a warm, dry Mediterranean climate, the soil is rich in gravel and sandstone with surrounding forests of scrubs and cork oaks. Its 55 hectares of high density planted vineyards are mainly Sangiovese, with a small amount of Cabernet Sauvignon.

A relatively low elevation of 100 metres and the influence of the Tyrrhenian Sea ensure early but complete ripeness of the grapes, which in turn yield intensely fruity wines. The estate produced its first Morellino di Scansano Santa Maria in 2000.

Santa Maria

This estate lies a few kilometres from Livorno on the Mediterranean coast and covers 127 hectares, of which 92 are under vine.
Cypresses dot the vineyards, which were re-planted to high densities in 2002, utilising the most up-to-date viticultural technologies. The soils are of various types, with a predominating reddish sand of marine origin which is iron-rich known as Sabbie di Nugola. The warm, dry climate, and particularly the beneficial marine breezes combine to enable Costa Di Nugola to produce wines of unequalled quality, appealingly complex with distinctive aromas of Mediterranean macchia, or scrubland.
